Paul Jabara...singer/actor/songwriter/producer.
On Broadway Paul was in the original Broadway production of "Hair." He was the original "King Herod" in the London production of "Jesus Christ Superstar."
As a songwriter he penned "Last Dance" for Donna Summer, "The Main Event" for Barbra Streisand and then "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)" for Donna and Barbra! As a songwriter he also won an Oscar and a Grammy for his contribution to "Thank God It's Friday"..."Last Dance." He then wrote and produced for Whitney Houston and The Weathergirls ("It's Raining Men"), among others.
As a television actor Paul starred in the pilot episode of "The Equalizer" and can be seen as "Billy Ryan" on a 1976 episode of "Starsky & Hutch." His illustrious film career began with a party scene in 1969's "Midnight Cowboy." In 1970's "The Out-Of-Towners" he graduated to "first hippie!" Several forgetable movies later he landed the role of "Crazy Cohen" in the "Lords Of Flatbush." Then his penultimate role in "Thank God It's Friday." Follow by, "Star 80," "Legal Eagles" "Slaves Of New York" and sadly the voice of "Mr. Ninja" in "9 1/2
Ninja's," his last film!
His own albums brought him critical acclaim. His first, "Shut Out" was pressed on red vinyl. It featured his medley of "Shut Out/Heaven Is A Disco," with Donna Summer appearing as herself. His second album, "Keeping Time," was a milestone! it featured his own version of "Last Dance," the club classic, "Pleasure Island" plus another "Medley." Then came "The Third Album" with it's cover artwork in hommage to Barbra Streisand's own "Third Album." It featured yet another Donna duet, "Never Lose Your Sense Of Humor." And his last vinyl release was "De La Noche..A Poperette."
Who knows where this talented dynamo would be now? Paul we hardly knew ye......but you gave Disco some of it's greatest hits and for that we "thank you"! |
